What does Kimbolton have to offer?

Are you looking for things to do in Kimbolton? Maybe you’ve just moved to the area...or maybe you’re looking for a quaint Cambridgeshire village to relocate to? This local guide will give you a short insight into what Kimbolton has to offer.

 

The handsome village of Kimbolton, located in Cambridgeshire is packed with historical interest and charm. The village was once the home of King Henry VIII's first wife, Catherine of Aragon. The high street has approx 80 listed buildings, all showcasing unique characteristics with the statuesque Kimbolton Castle perfectly highlighting the village. The village is amongst a conservation area ensuring the historical features are retained. The River Kym runs through the village. With a population of approx 1,500 Kimbolton is one of the smallest villages in the county.

 

 

Services

Kimbolton has plenty of services, shops, and amenities. Along the high street you will find the pharmacy,  Hellett & Sons butchers, some quaint cafes, pubs and restaurants. Olivers Cafe serves delicious cakes, coffees, brunch, and lunch. Crawfords also offer some lovely sandwiches, teas, and coffees.

 

The New Sun Inn is a traditional country pub, serving quality ales, hand picked wines and an extensive selection of homemade food. The Saddle is another public house with a varying choice of finely crafted real ales, and an extensive wine list. Using fresh locally sourced ingredients their menu offers regularly changing delicious dishes.

The White Horse can be found in the neighbouring village of Tilbrook, this a lovely spot for a drink or bite to eat in the sunshine in their extensive garden and patio area.

Truffles & Twine is a lovely gift shop offering all sorts of beautiful gifts, fashion accessories and home interiors. La Cote d'Or is a quaint antiques shop. The independent fashion boutique Blue Blancmange in Tilbrook offers some beautiful items of clothing and accessories.

 

Fishers Hardware provides everything and anything you need for DIY and gardening. If you’re looking for some lovely flowers visit the local florist, The Kimbolton flower shop. A bespoke country themed florist offering beautiful bouquets and wreaths.

At one end of the village, you will conveniently find a Budgens supermarket and Robinsons automobile engineers. Kimbolton Castle takes centre stage at the end of the high street. Although the castle is now home to the prestigious Kimbolton school, tours can be arranged for visitors interested in the history of the castle, which was once the home of King Henry VIII's first wife, Catherine of Aragon. The castle also hosts weddings and corporate events.

 

Grafham Water is approximately a 10-minute drive, as England's third largest reservoir nestled in 1500 acres of beautiful countryside, this makes a great day out for lots of activities including walking, cycling, fishing, and watersports.

 

 

Schools and GP

The village is home to Kimbolton Primary Academy and the prestigious Kimbolton School. The independent day and boarding school hosts over 1000 pupils ages 4-11. At one end of the village, you will find the prep school for ages 4-11 and just a short walk through their private parkland brings you to the senior school for 11-18 year olds. The village has a local medical centre and private dental studio.

 

 

Transport 

Kimbolton is situated in a superb location for transport links, with Huntingdon station around a 20-minute drive providing direct access to Peterborough and London Kings Cross. The town has easy access to the A14 & A1 making this a well connected town.
