Have you ever been sat outside your new home, lorry packed, waiting to get in...but you can't? Something somewhere along the chain has been held up, meaning you can't just unlock that door and start hanging curtains and arranging cushions.
So why does this happen? It's a domino effect, a snowball, call it what you will but it's definitely annoying.
It’s quite common for your moving day to coincide with the day you formally complete the sale so naturally if something doesn’t go to plan on the day, your whole schedule could be thrown out. Take for example the impact hunger has on the whole situation. A solicitor somewhere along the chain gets hungry (which as a human is totally acceptable), they may just nip out of the office to grab a sandwich, thus causing a delay for you and others involved.
If the process is held up until late in the day, your loaded removals lorry might be about head back to its depot for the night. And to make matters even worse, the removals company may even be booked on another move the following day! Now what are you going to do? No one would blame you for stamping your feet a little.
At Villager Homes we suggest cutting out a lot of the stress and risk by moving out a day or two prior to completion and moving into your new property a day or two after. Not only will this dramatically reduce the stressful factors of moving but it will also give you time to prepare your sold property for the next occupants, while also giving you a chance to do anything in your new home before the furniture arrives. Staying locally during these few days will likely have a cost (if you haven’t any relatives to descend upon) but this will be pretty insignificant when you think about the whole moving experience.
Moving into a new home should be an exciting time and most likely your highest value purchase to date. Be excited for the whole experience and enjoy it!
