As a result the grounds take advantage of all the natural elements of the Wood.  It includes numerous trees, predominantly Oak and Ash but also 2 Wild Service trees, indicators of ancient woodland. Primroses and bluebells line the garden in the springtime and this year we discovered about a dozen bee orchids in the lawn. The trees and hedgerows are alive with the songs of birds such as blackcaps and chiffchaff in early summer and woodpeckers and nuthatches visit our bird feeders. In high summer woodland butterflies including the Silver Washed Fritillary and Purple Emperor  can be seen and in the autumn Jays and Squirrels squabble over acorns and hazel nuts.
